Few moments on safari are as memorable as watching the sun go down over the African bush. As the heat of the day fades, the sky turns orange and pink, and the silhouettes of acacia trees and animals stand out against the horizon.
The safari sundowner
On many of our safaris, the afternoon game drive ends at a scenic viewpoint where your guide sets up a sundowner, a relaxed stop with cold drinks and light snacks. It is a chance to stretch your legs, share the day’s sightings and take photos in the golden light.
Great places for sunset include the rolling plains of the Serengeti, the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and the Tarangire River valley. In Zanzibar, sunset can be enjoyed from the beach or on a traditional dhow cruise.
Park rules on leaving the vehicle vary, so your guide will choose a safe, permitted spot.
