A boat safari in the former Selous Game Reserve—now part of Nyerere National Park—takes place mainly along the wide Rufiji River and its channels, offering a completely different perspective from traditional game drives. From the water, you can see large pods of hippos, massive Nile crocodiles basking on the banks, and elephants coming down to drink or cross the river, along with abundant birdlife such as kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons. The slow, peaceful movement of the boat allows close but safe wildlife viewing, especially in the late afternoon when animals are most active, making it one of the most atmospheric safari experiences in southern Tanzania.
