Kilimanjaro Mountain

Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,650m)

Drive approximately 4 hours to Rongai Gate. Begin trekking through farmland, rainforest, and open bushland to Simba Camp.

DAY 03

Kilimanjaro

Simba Camp (2,650m) to Second Cave (3,450m) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

A gentle ascent through moorland and heather zone. Stop at Second Cave for lunch before continuing to Kikelewa Camp.

Distance: Approx. 11 km
Altitude Gain: +950m

Kilimanjaro Mountain

Kikelewa Camp (3,600m) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)

Today’s hike is shorter but steeper as you ascend into alpine desert with dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak.

DAY 05

Kilimanjaro Mountain

Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m) to Kibo Camp (4,700m)

Cross the lunar-like Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks to reach Kibo Camp, your base for summit night.

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: Approx. 9 km

DAY 06

Kilimanjaro Mountain

Kibo Camp (4,700m) – Gilman’s Point (5,681m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Camp (3,720m)

Begin the summit attempt just after midnight. Climb steep scree slopes to Gilman’s Point, then continue around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

After summit celebrations and sunrise views, descend to Kibo Camp for refreshments, then continue to Horombo Camp.

Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
Distance: Approx. 21 km total

Moshi

Horombo Camp (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,800m)

Descend through moorland and lush rainforest to Marangu Gate, where successful climbers receive summit certificates.

Transfer back to Moshi for overnight stay at Weru Weru River Lodge.
