Overview - Kenya’s Alpine Wilderness Adventure

Mount Kenya National Park is one of Kenya’s most spectacular natural destinations, centered around Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro. Located in central Kenya, the park protects a dramatic landscape of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, alpine forests, bamboo zones, waterfalls, and high-altitude moorlands. The mountain rises majestically above the surrounding plains, creating one of the country’s most iconic landscapes.

The park is a paradise for hikers, climbers, and nature lovers. Mount Kenya has several peaks, with Batian and Nelion attracting experienced technical climbers, while Point Lenana is accessible to trekkers without advanced mountaineering skills. Trekking routes pass through multiple vegetation zones, starting from dense rainforest inhabited by elephants and buffalo before reaching giant lobelias, rocky valleys, and icy summits.

Beyond trekking, the park is also rich in biodiversity and cultural importance. It supports rare wildlife including colobus monkeys, leopards, forest elephants, giant forest hogs, and numerous bird species. The mountain is sacred to the Kikuyu people, who traditionally believed it was the dwelling place of their god, Ngai. This spiritual significance adds cultural depth to the natural beauty of the region.
