Hell’s Gate National Park is one of Kenya’s most unique and adventurous national parks, located near Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. Unlike most safari parks where visitors remain inside vehicles, Hell’s Gate allows walking, cycling, and hiking among wildlife in a dramatic volcanic landscape. The park is named after a narrow gorge once believed to be a gateway to the underworld because of its geothermal activity and towering rock formations.

The scenery is one of the park’s greatest attractions, featuring massive cliffs, deep gorges, volcanic plugs, geothermal steam vents, and expansive grasslands. The towering Fischer’s Tower and Central Tower dominate the landscape, creating spectacular views that are popular with hikers and rock climbers. The geothermal activity within the park also contributes to Kenya’s renewable energy production through nearby geothermal plants.

Although Hell’s Gate does not have large predators in high concentrations, it supports wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, buffalo, antelopes, warthogs, baboons, and numerous bird species including vultures and eagles. The ability to safely cycle or walk close to wildlife gives visitors a much more immersive and active safari experience compared to traditional game drives.
