A stunning wildlife reserve in northeastern Tanzania, this expansive area covers 3,245 square kilometers (1,254 square miles). Initially designated as a game reserve in 1951 and later elevated to national park status in 2006, it is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including endangered species.
In Tanzania, the wildlife reserve is reachable by road or air. If opting for the road, major cities like Arusha and Moshi serve as access points, with the journey lasting around 5-6 hours. It’s recommended to secure a 4×4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season, as certain sections of the road may present challenges.
For those opting for air travel, the nearest airport is Kilimanjaro International Airport, situated near Arusha. From there, you can arrange a private transfer or take a domestic flight to a nearby airstrip, such as the one in Same, which is approximately 45 minutes away from the park.
