Machame Camp, also known as Machame Hut Campsite, is the first overnight stop for climbers ascending Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route. Situated at an elevation of approximately 2,835 meters (9,301 feet), the camp is nestled within the lush montane rainforest on the southwestern slopes of the mountain. This campsite offers trekkers their initial experience of Kilimanjaro’s diverse ecological zones, providing a serene environment surrounded by rich flora and fauna. Facilities are basic, with climbers typically sleeping in tents. The trek to Machame Camp serves as an essential acclimatization phase, preparing climbers for the more challenging stages ahead.
