Barafu Camp is the final base camp for climbers attempting the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame, Lemosho, or Umbwe routes. Located at an altitude of 4,673 meters (15,331 feet), the camp sits on a rocky, exposed ridge with stunning views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers. Conditions are harsh, with cold temperatures, high winds, and no permanent facilities—climbers sleep in tents and rely on their trekking crews for meals and support. Barafu Camp is primarily used as a short overnight stop, as most climbers begin their midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak from here, making it one of the most critical and challenging points on the mountain.
